A Welcome Note from the President’s Desk, Mr. Elliot Ibie, FNAPE

A welcome Note from the President’s Desk, Mr. Elliot Ibie, FNAPE

As we begin the New Year, I want to take a moment to reach out and wish you all a happy and successful 2023.

The month of January normally carries a lot of expectations, both for us as individuals and for the association, with plans being made and roadmaps to success during the year being constructed and NAPE was not left out.

We kicked off the year with a Special Technical/Business Meeting in honour of one of our Fellows, Dr. Kehinde Ladipo, FNAPE as he joined the Septuagenarians’ Club as well as becoming an Emeritus. The thought-provoking and deeply insightful presentation on ‘The Emerging Frontier of Nigeria’s Cretaceous Rift Basins’ further lend credence to the resourcefulness and brilliance of our own ‘Baba Kenny’. Congrats, once again Sir.

There was also a change of guards in the fold of the NAPE Young Professionals. I want to salute the selfless service of the outgoing YP Lead, Ifeanyi Ikwueze, who piloted their affairs these past two years. I’m also delighted to welcome the Flora Anusiobi-led YP Executive and look forward to great things from her team.

The NAPE Executive Committee spent the last weekend in January at the ancient city of Benin for our Annual Retreat. It afforded us the opportunity to strategize on achieving the goals we have set for ourselves this year. While there was agreement among EXCO members that early and effective collaboration was one of the keys to success, we also are keen to receive feedback from our members on ways of improvement. While in Benin, we paid courtesy visits to both the Ossiomo Power Plant in Ologbo as well as to the Honorable Edo State Commissioner for Mining and Energy, Engr. Ethan Uzamere.

The visit to the Power Plant provided an opportunity to meet with the CEO, Dr. Uwa Igiehon and his team. Dr. Igiehon shared his thoughts on the future of Energy as well as explore possible areas of cooperation. I also want to thank the Benin Chapter of NAPE for their warm hospitality during our visit.

I encourage all of you to get involved in any way possible, support us financially, volunteer your skills/expertise and contribute significantly to the growth of our dear association.

I wish you all a happy and successful 2023.

Sincerely,

Elliot Ibie, FNAPE,
President, NAPE
