The Aret Adams Award
The Aret Adams Award is named in honour of the late Chief Aretanekhai (Aret) Godwin Adams and his commitment to excellence. It is the highest and most distinguished award of the Association. It is given to deserving Earth Scientists of any nationality, in recognition of distinguished and outstanding contributions to, or achievements in the sciences and practice of petroleum exploration and exploitation for a continuous period of 25 years or more.
Eligibility
A Professional member duly sponsored by a minimum of six (6) financially up-to-date Active members, including at least five (5) Fellows of the Association, at least one (1) of whom must be an Aret Adams award recipient and 1 past President of the Association shall, on recommendation of the Honours and Awards Committee be considered for the Aret Adams Award if, in view of the Executive Committee, the nominee satisfies all the following criteria:
must be a Fellow of the Association
has shown active participation in the activities of the Association
has distinguished himself/ herself professionally
has held active membership of the Association continuously for at least twenty-five (25) years. Consistent payment of annual dues for a sustained minimum period of 10 years shall be required
has tangible, measurable contribution to industry, national economy, knowledge, academia, exemplary professional practice, international scholarship, civic duties among others.
has discovered a significant petroleum or mineral resource or caused a significant petroleum or mineral resource to be developed.
has caused a new significant play to be developed in a new or mature basin.
been part of a team that discovered a significant petroleum or mineral resource or accomplished earth science exploration methodologies which can be demonstrated to be responsible for the discovery of a significant petroleum or mineral resource.
Nomination Procedure
A nominee must be a qualified Earth Scientist and an active NAPE Member of any nationality
Nominee must have made significant contributions to the field and practice of petroleum exploration and exploitation for a continuous period of twenty-five (25) years
Nominations must be accompanied by a brief resume stating the nominee’s contributions to the practice of petroleum exploration and exploitation in Nigeria or elsewhere.
Nominations should also be accompanied by a minimum of three (3) key scientific publications in international journals, satisfactory to the Executive Committee.
Submission Guidelines
- All applications for the Aret Adams award are to be made on standard templates provided by the HAC and shall be completed online in accordance with the instructions contained therein.
- Individuals may submit a nomination form on behalf of themselves or on behalf of another person. Anyone previously nominated may be reconsidered.
- Attach supporting documentation such as the nominee’s curriculum vitae, in line with the criteria for the award concerned.
- Applicants are to advise their sponsors to respond to the email seeking their reference within the time frame specified in the request.
- Applications or endorsements received after June 30th shall be deemed invalid.
- Upon receipt, applications become the property of NAPE and will not be returned to applicants.
Restrictions
- Nominees must not have been disciplined under Section 7 or Section 12 of the NAPE Constitution.
- Nominees must be alive at the time of selection and must be personally present to receive the award. NAPE Honours and Awards shall not be given by proxy except for posthumous awards.
- Serving Executive officers of the Association are ineligible for consideration while in office.
- Advisory Council members are not eligible to nominate or endorse nominated candidates for any category of NAPE Distinguished Honours and Awards while serving on the Council.
- Advisory Council members are not eligible for consideration for NAPE Distinguished Honours and Nominated Awards while serving on the Council.
