February Message and Reflections from the NAPE President

Dear NAPE Members, Associates, and Friends,

Happy New Month and warm greetings to you all!

As we step into February 2025, I’m excited to share the significant strides we made in January to advance NAPE’s mission and deliver value to our members.

We kicked off the year with high-level engagements, leading a team of NAPE Executives on a courtesy visit to the Special Adviser on Energy to the Nigerian President, Mrs. Olu Verheijen. Our discussions emphasized the urgent need for human capital development to sustain the future of the oil and gas industry. We also advocated for additional government incentives to accelerate targeted gas development, positioning Nigeria as Africa’s leading gas producer. Continuing our outreach to key government agencies, the NAPE Executives also met with Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) Management team. The agency has agreed to collaborate with NAPE on Research & Development initiatives, the production of journals and bulletins, and the establishment of a Center of Excellence in Petroleum Studies.

Furthering our commitment to strengthening industry-academia collaboration, the NAPE University Assistance Programme (UAP) Chairman joined me on a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh. We discussed the need to bridge the gap between academia and industry. I also took the opportunity to inaugurate the Local Organizing Committee for the NAPE-NMGS Mini Conference, scheduled for August 26-30, 2025, at the university.

As part of our dedication to serving you better, the NAPE Executive Committee held a strategic retreat in Abuja. This session allowed us to refine our programs for the year, ensuring they align with our vision and objectives. I encourage all members to actively participate in the initiatives we have planned.

Additionally, we saw a leadership transition in the NAPE Young Professionals (YP) body. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the outgoing YP Lead, Flora Anusiobi, for her dedicated service over the past two years. I also warmly welcome the new YP Executive, led by Seun Ogundipe, and look forward to working together to achieve impactful milestones.

Looking ahead, our monthly Technical & Business Meetings will kick off this month as part of our Continuing Education Program, led by the President-Elect. The first session is scheduled for February 5th at Eko Hotel, followed by a series of chapter-level technical sessions.

As part of the University Assistance Program, NAPE in collaboration with American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) will host a 3-day Petrel Software Geoscience hands-on training from February 6-8, sponsored by SLB. This training is designed to equip students and lecturers across Nigerian and African universities with advanced geoscience interpretation skills in preparation for the NAPE Basin Evaluation Competition (BEC) and the AAPG Imperial Barrel Award (IBA).

My vision remains steadfast: to strengthen NAPE’s advocacy with the government on critical energy matters, connecting the industry and academia, while driving impactful initiatives that benefit all our members.

Let’s keep the momentum going!
