End-Of-Year Reflections by the NAPE President, Mr. Elliot Ibie, FNAPE
On behalf of the NAPE Executive Committee, I send warm wishes to all members of our great Association as we celebrate this festive season.
On behalf of the NAPE Executive Committee, I send warm wishes to all members of our great Association as we celebrate this festive season.
Following the success of our 2022 Annual Conference & Exhibition, I was delighted to have attended the Dinner/Awards Night of the Lagos Zone of the Oil & Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN) December 2nd. This was my first ‘official assignment’ as President and kudos to Mazi Sam Onyechi (OGTAN National President); Matthew Olaleye (Lagos Zone Coordinator) and the Chairman of OGTAN’s Board of Trustees, our very own Past President, Dr. Mayowa Afe, FNAPE, for the invitation and great hospitality. I look forward to exploring more areas of collaboration with OGTAN and similar organizations.
In closing out our commitments from the October 2022 NAPE Charity Walk to share proceeds of that Walk with a Charity organization, we visited a Motherless Babies Home (The Lion’s Village) in Lekki Phase 1 December 3rd. It was a sobering experience, but also good to see the efforts from the Lagos State Government and the staff of the Home to provide a home, security, and a future to inhabitants of this well-run place.
We are hopeful that oil and gas would continue to be an integral part of the global energy mix as such NAPE commends the Federal Government, NNPC Limited and its partners on the inauguration of the Kolmani Integrated Development Project (KIPRO). As oil and gas finders, NAPE is elated with the reported discovery of over 1 billion barrels of oil reserves and 500 billion Cubic Feet of Gas within the Kolmani area and the huge potential for more deposits. NAPE has continually advocated for the addition to known reserves through a deliberate exploration program in the frontier basins. We would continue to identify with and support the Ministry of Petroleum Resources’ mandate to grow reserves from the current 37 billion barrels of oil to 40 billion barrels of oil by 2025.
I am very optimistic about our plans for the New Year. I am motivated by the quality of men and women in NAPE’s Executive Committee as well as the support we know we will get from the Advisory Council, Board of Trustees, our Distinguished Fellows, membership, and the Secretariat. I had the opportunity to share thoughts with the Secretariat staff earlier this month and they are as excited and motivated as I am and I’m hoping that together we all can work towards greater strides for the Association.
I look forward to our Executive Committee Retreat in January where we will coalesce the aspirations of EXCO members and frame our plans for 2023. We will also appreciate input from our members as well as more participation in NAPE events and initiatives.
As we celebrate, let’s remember in our prayers the families of our members whom we lost in 2022 and most recently, one of our former Executive Committee member, Late Olulere Emmanuel Olopade, FNAPE.
2022 has been a tough, challenging but strategic year. A lot has happened but amidst all challenges we are faced with, we see a future and hope for the oil & gas industry. So, let’s continue to make giant strides in our various endeavors and for our great Association.
As the year 2022 ends today, I hope we are taking our well-deserved vacations, so we are refreshed to start the New Year strongly.
