About NAPE
We are NAPE
NAPE is the largest professional association of petroleum geologists and related disciplines in Nigeria and Africa. Members include geologists, geophysicists, CEOs, managers, consultants, students and academicians
Brief History!
The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists began as the Lagos Society of Geologists and Geophysicists, the brainchild of a young man named Akomeno Oteri, who saw the need for such a professional society to foster both social and technical interaction among professional colleagues. He had the idea after attending one of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists’ monthly meetings in Dallas, USA.
To accommodate colleagues from other parts of the country, the name was later changed to the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE). The society, which began in August 1975 with only ten people attending the inaugural meeting at the Federal Palace Hotel, now has 12,073 individual members and 173 supporting corporate members.
