CYRIL ODU (CY) passed away on Tuesday, September 17. He had been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Union Bank of Nigeria since November 26, 2015 though he joined the Board three years earlier and was Chairman of the Bank’s Risk Management Committee as well as member of the Finance and General Purpose and Credit Committee.
Cyril joined Mobil Producing Nigeria in 1972 as Junior Geologist and served in different positions including being Manager Planning Analysis, Treasurer, Controller, Project Finance Director, Mobil Services Company, United Kingdom and Manager, Plans, Programs and New Business Development. He was also Country HR Manager for ExxonMobil affiliates in Nigeria from 2001 to 2005. He worked for ExxonMobil for 40 years rising from Trainee to Vice Chairman of the Board of Mobil Producing Nigeria and Chief Financial Officer of ExxonMobil Upstream Companies in Nigeria; making him the highest-ranking Nigerian in the Organization until his retirement in 2012.
He joined the African Capital Alliance (ACA) as Partner- Head of Energy. ACA is a leading Pan-African private equity firm with over US$ 1billion in aggregate capital commitments. He became the Chief Executive Officer; a position he held till his death a few days ago. He held a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Ibadan in 1972 as well as a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the renowned Texas Southern University, Houston.
AC1975/0022 CYRIL ODU was foundation member of Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists and became a fellow of the Association in 2009. May his soul rest in peace, Amen.
