2025 Message and Reflections from the NAPE President

Dear NAPE Members, Associates, and Friends,

Dear NAPE Members, Associates, and Friends,

This marks my final Presidential Monthly Message to our esteemed members, associates, and friends. The 2024–2025 Presidential Year has been a remarkable chapter in NAPE’s journey. It has been a year of consolidation, innovation, and collaboration, guided by the 5Es Agenda I introduced at the start of my tenure: Elevating NAPE’s Profile, Empowering Members, Engaging in Advocacy, Establishing Strategic Partnerships, and Enhancing Infrastructure and Capacity Development.

Together with my Executive Committee, volunteers, and advocates, we have strengthened NAPE’s impact, expanded its reach, and reaffirmed its leadership role in shaping the energy discourse across Africa and beyond.

Engaging in Advocacy and Industry Collaboration

In October, I led a high-level courtesy visit to the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Engr. Bayo Ojulari. Our discussions focused on deepening collaboration to unlock new oil and gas reserves, advance frontier basin exploration, and enhance human capital development through partnerships with the NNPC Academy and our University Assistance Program (UAP). We commended the GCEO and his leadership team for the remarkable transformation achieved in recent months.

We also paid courtesy visits to the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), Mr. Ronald Adams, where we reaffirmed our mutual commitment to sustaining the longstanding partnership between NAPE and Shell. Additionally, we met with the Group Chief Operating Officer of Waltersmith Petroman Oil Limited, who commended NAPE’s consistent efforts in nurturing young talent within the energy sector and pledged continued support for our initiatives.

Elevating NAPE’s Profile at Industry Events

On 7th October, I had the honour of delivering a keynote address at the 3rd Nigeria Gas Investment Forum, titled “Unlocking Nigeria’s Gas Potential for Sustainable Energy Growth.” It was a proud moment to spotlight NAPE’s leadership in promoting responsible exploration, gas development, and energy transition in Nigeria and beyond.

Industry–Academia Collaboration

During the month, we inaugurated two new student chapters, Dennis Osadebe University, Asaba and Ajayi Crowther University. These budding geoscientists represent the future of our industry.

We also held the 5th UAP Concept-to-Value Learning Series, delivered by Dr. Adamu Suleiman of NNPC, on “Investigating Rift Basin Magmatism and Its Implication on Hydrocarbon Trap Development.” This initiative continues to bridge the gap between academia and industry, fostering innovation and knowledge transfer.

NAPE Annual International Conference and Exhibition

Yesterday, 31st October, we arrived at Uyo Golf Resort to commence our pre-conference activities, starting with the Golf Tournament today, 1st November 2025. The atmosphere is vibrant as industry leaders and professionals converge for this exciting kick-off event.

This year’s Annual International Conference and Exhibition is particularly significant. With the theme “Revitalizing the Nigerian Petroleum Exploration and Production Strategies for Energy Security and Sustainable Development,” the conference challenges us to confront current energy realities and to explore forward-looking strategies for securing Nigeria’s energy future responsibly and sustainably. The main conference will hold from 9th to 13th November at Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos.

Final Remarks

As I deliver this final message and prepare to hand over leadership this November, I do so with immense gratitude – to God, my family, our Executive Committee, the Secretariat team, corporate sponsors, Renaissance Africa Energy, and to every NAPE member who has contributed to our shared success.

Together, we have revitalized NAPE’s systems, expanded its influence, upgraded its Secretariat, and inspired a new generation of geoscientists. I am deeply proud of what we have accomplished and confident that our Association is well-positioned for even greater heights because The Future Is Now.

Warm regards,

Johnbosco Uche, FNAPE

President, Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE)
