March 2026 Message and Reflections from the NAPE President

Dear NAPE Members, Associates, and Friends.

I extend my warm greetings to you and express my sincere appreciation for your continued commitment, engagement, and support as we advance the strategic priorities of our great Association. The steady progress recorded in recent weeks reflects the strength of our collective resolve and reinforces NAPE’s enduring role as a leading professional body within Nigeria’s upstream petroleum and energy sector.

February was particularly significant, highlighted by NAPE’s active participation at the Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) 2026 in Abuja, where the Association participated as an Official Exhibitor. Our presence provided an important platform to engage policymakers, industry leaders, investors, and professionals, while showcasing NAPE’s contributions to technical excellence, capacity development, and industry advancement. I was also honoured to participate as a speaker in a strategic session focused on regulatory diplomacy and policy architecture, where discussions emphasized the importance of regulatory alignment and enabling frameworks to support sustainable energy development and investment across Africa. This engagement reflects NAPE’s continued commitment to contributing meaningfully to national and continental energy dialogue.

Our commitment to strengthening human capital development and advancing the future of the geoscience profession continues to progress through two important and distinct initiatives.

First, I am pleased to report that the Curriculum Review Ad Hoc Committee established by the Association to evaluate geoscience curricula in Nigerian universities has successfully completed its assignment and submitted its report. The Committee was mandated to assess existing academic curricula and identify opportunities for NAPE to contribute toward enhancing curriculum relevance and strengthening alignment with industry requirements. As the next critical step, the Association will formally present the Committee’s recommendations to the National Universities Commission (NUC), with the objective of supporting curriculum enhancement and ensuring that geoscience graduates are better equipped with competencies aligned with modern exploration and subsurface evaluation practices. This milestone represents a significant step in NAPE’s efforts to contribute meaningfully to national capacity development and to strengthen the alignment between academic training and industry needs.

The NAPE Academy initiative also continues to progress as a key institutional programme focused on establishing a structured, integrated training platform for graduates and early-career professionals. The Academy is designed to complement academic education by providing industry-aligned technical training, professional development, and multidisciplinary capacity building. This initiative remains central to NAPE’s long-term vision of strengthening professional competence, enhancing workforce readiness, and supporting the sustainable development of exploration expertise within the industry. In further fulfillment of our core mandate, the Association delivered impactful technical programmes during the month, including the February Technical/Business Meeting. The Technical/Business Meeting featured a timely and insightful presentation on the application of integrated   non-seismic                    technologies   to                      reduce           exploration    risk,    improve   subsurface understanding, and enhance cost efficiency. The significance of this engagement was further reinforced by its coverage in the Financial Energy Review, underscoring NAPE’s position as a trusted technical authority and a leading platform for advancing innovative exploration practices and industry-relevant discourse. The full publication is available HERE.

These activities, alongside ongoing engagements across our Chapters, and Young Professionals, demonstrate the vitality of our Association and our continued commitment to knowledge sharing, professional development, and institutional growth.

As we build on this momentum, I encourage all members to remain actively engaged in NAPE’s programmes and initiatives and to continue contributing to the advancement of our professional community.

I would also like to remind members that the deadline for payment of the 2026 membership dues is 31 March 2026. Timely payment of dues is essential to maintaining active membership status and ensuring uninterrupted access to the Association’s technical programmes, professional platforms, and benefits.

In addition, I respectfully encourage your continued support for the ongoing fundraising drive toward the acquisition of a permanent Secretariat Building for NAPE. This strategic legacy project represents an important milestone in strengthening our institutional foundation, enhancing operational efficiency, and securing a permanent home for the Association. Your continued support will be instrumental in helping us realize this important objective.

I remain confident in the strength of our Association and optimistic about the future we are building together. Through our shared commitment, professionalism, and collective effort, we will continue to strengthen NAPE’s impact and advance the frontiers of our profession.

Thank you for your continued dedication and support.

Warm regards,

Mrs. Olajumoke Cecilia Ajayi, FNAPE
