The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists, NAPE, successfully held its January Special Technical and Business Meeting on Wednesday, 21 January 2026. The landmark event also marked the 90th Birthday Celebration of Ogbueshi Ben Osuno, FNAPE. The meeting was conducted in a hybrid format, with physical attendance at Lantana Hall, Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, and virtual participation via Zoom.
The meeting featured two key sessions. Session One was a lecture titled Ben Osuno, An Exploration of His Times. While the paper was authored by Prof. S.J.S. Cookey, OFR, KSC, who was unavoidably absent, the presentation was delivered by Dr. Layi Fatona, FNAPE. The lecture examined the life, values, and professional contributions of Ogbueshi Ben Osuno, and his role in shaping Nigeria’s oil and gas sector and national development.
Session Two featured a technical paper presentation by Dr. Moses Ebitsuwa Omatsola, FNAPE, titled Evaluation of Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Policies from the Inception of the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, to Date. The presentation reviewed Nigeria’s regulatory evolution, policy outcomes, and key lessons relevant to future industry governance.
The meeting brought together industry elders, senior professionals, members of the association, young professionals, and virtual participants. Robust discussions followed both sessions, reinforcing knowledge sharing and professional engagement.
The 90th birthday celebration in honour of Ben Osuno, also featured a special cake cutting ceremony, and a gift presentation was made to the celebrant on behalf of NAPE by the NAPE President in recognition of his lifetime contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
In her closing remarks, the NAPE President, Olajumoke Cecilia Ajayi, FNAPE reaffirmed NAPE’s commitment to professional excellence delivery, inclusive participation, policy engagement, and continuous learning within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
