ARET ADAMS AWARD

NOMINATION GUIDELINES & FORM FOR THE ARET ADAMS AWARD

The Aret Adams Award is named in honour of Late Chief Aret Adams in recognition of his commitment to excellence and it is the highest and most distinguished award of the Association. The Award is instituted to recognize a member who has attained Industry/National/Global visibility and earned undisputable respect as a professional and leader within the energy industry nationally and/or globally.

ELIGIBILITY:

 

A Fellow of NAPE, duly sponsored by a minimum of six (6) financially up-to-date Active members, including at least five (5) Fellows of the Association, at least one (1) of whom must be an Aret Adams award recipient and 2 past President of the Association shall, on recommendation of the Honours and Awards Committee be considered for the Aret Adams Award if, in view of the Executive Committee, the nominee satisfies all the following criteria:

  1. Has shown active participation in the activities of the Association continuously for at least twenty-five (25) years. Consistent payment of annual dues for a sustained minimum period of 10 years from the year of application shall be required.
  2. Has distinguished himself/ herself professionally.
  3. Has tangible, measurable contribution to industry, national economy, knowledge, academia, exemplary professional practice, international scholarship, civic duties among others.
  4. Has made significant and consistent effort to use his/her platform to educate industry practitioners about technical subject(s) or engage in public. discourse about industry issues; therefore, being called upon by NAPE or his/her company to speak to regulators, government agencies and other stakeholders to exert his/her sphere of influence in impacting decisions.
  5. A Role Model who models the right behaviours in terms of ethics, integrity, accountability, trustworthiness and very intentional about grooming, inspiring the next generation of professionals and thought leaders.
  6. Ability to mobilize resources or positively influence/motivate people to act on issues that are of concern to/benefit NAPE and/or Nigerian petroleum industry landscape, influencing laws and policy that will be beneficial to the growth of industry, raising funds for important causes including NAPE’s.
  7. Has discovered a significant petroleum or mineral resources or caused a significant petroleum or mineral resources to be developed.
  8. Has caused a new significant play to be developed in a new or mature basin.
  9. Has accomplished earth science exploration methodologies which can be demonstrated to be responsible for the discovery of a significant petroleum or mineral resource.

NOMINATION PROCEDURE:

 

  1. A nominee must be a qualified Earth Scientist and a Fellow of NAPE NAPE of any nationality who has made significant contributions to the field and practice of petroleum exploration and exploitation in Nigeria or elsewhere for a continuous period of twenty-five (25) years or more.
  2. Individuals may submit a nomination form on behalf of themselves or on behalf of another person. Anyone previously nominated may be reconsidered.
  3. Nominations must be accompanied by a brief resume stating the nominee’s contributions to the practice of petroleum exploration and exploitation in Nigeria or elsewhere.
  4. Nominations should also be accompanied by a minimum of three (3) key scientific publications in international journals, satisfactory to the Executive Committee.

RESTRICTIONS:

 

  • Nominees must not have been disciplined under Section 7 or Section 12 of the NAPE Constitution.
  • Nominees must be alive at the time of selection and must be personally present to receive the award. NAPE Honours and Awards shall not be given by proxy except for posthumous awards.
  • Serving Executive officers of the Association are ineligible for consideration while in office.
  • Advisory Council members are not eligible to nominate or endorse nominated candidates for any category of NAPE Distinguished Honours and Awards while serving on the Council.
  • Advisory Council members are not eligible for consideration for NAPE Distinguished Honours and Nominated Awards while serving on the Council.

SUBMITTING NOMINATION FORMS FOR NAPE FELLOWSHIP:

 

  • All applications for the Aret Adams award are to be made on standard templates provided by the Distinguished HAC and shall be completed online in accordance with the instructions contained therein.
  • Attach supporting documentation such as the nominee’s curriculum vitae, in line with the criteria for the award concerned.
  • Individuals may submit a nomination form on behalf of themselves or on behalf of others. Anyone previously nominated may re-enter.
  • Applicants are to advise their sponsors to respond to the email seeking their reference within the time frame specified in the request.
  • Applications or endorsement received after May 31st, 2025 shall be deemed invalid.
  • Upon receipt, applications become the property of NAPE and will not be returned to applicants.
