Technical Meeting E Poster for March 2017 Lagos

Topic: The Impact of Rock Typing and Sandstone Petrology in Exploration and Production
The Lagos March Technical meeting was held on 16th March, 2017 at the Lantana hall, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island Lagos. The technical presentation for the day was given by Dr. Thomas L. Dunn of Chevron Energy Technology Company who currently doubles as an AAPG distinguished lecturer. His presentation showcased the significance and value of applying rock typing and rock catalogs to formation evaluation which has proven to be the best predicting tool to delineate whether a unit will flow. This method is becoming increasingly valuable as it resolves the problems/uncertainties associated with deriving accurate estimates of permeability. He presented two case studies from the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico, which shows where time-critical rock typing contributed to decisions to (i) continue drilling in one case (ii) to stop drilling and complete a well in the other case. The methodology is an integrated estimation method which links rock types, log responses and production performance. He cited a scenario where there was good permeability estimation from rock-typing which helped to increase the level of confidence for planning an injector well to drive fluid to primary extraction point within a massive reservoir unit.

The meeting was sponsored by AAPG African Region.

Technical Meeting E Poster for JANUARY 2017 Lagos

Topic: Enhanced Recovery in a Mature Field Utilizing MazeFloTM, an Innovative Sand Control Technology
The meeting was held on Wednesday 18th January, 2017 at the Grand Ballroom, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The speaker was Jumoke Akinpelu, a Geoscientist with over ten years of experience with ExxonMobil. Jumoke presented the values and rewards gotten from utilizing the MazeFloTM technology for remedial sand control and new completions. She explained how MazeFloTM screen was installed to restore sand free production and sustain well performance for one of the wells in Ubit Field which started producing sand after two years of production. There was a 43% EUR increase as a direct result of the MazefloTM technology. She stated that this technology would now be deployed to other wells with similar sand production issues in the field.

The meeting was sponsored by ExxonMobil.
