The serene hall of the Lagoon Restaurant on Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue in Victoria Island, Lagos was the venue of the August edition of NAPE’s Monthly Technical Meeting. Presiding as Chairman of the meeting was Chief Chamberlain Oyibo, fnape, Fellow and one time president of the Association. The man primed to deliver the paper was Dr.Saka Matemilola, Chief Petroleum Engineer at First Exploration & Petroleum Development Company Limited.
Mr Oyibo drew laughter and applause from the audience in his introduction of the speaker when he said “Saka has been made famous by the MTN and Etisalat adverts, here we have our own oil and gas industry ‘Saka’â€.
With the simple matters of the event like introductions, out of the way, Dr Matemilola went on to present a brilliant paper titled: Petroleum Reserves and Resource Evaluation – Aligning the NNS with Global Standards.
Dr. Matemila in his introduction stated that†Up until 1990, the definitions and classifications and reporting formats of reserves in Nigeria were as varied as the number of oil producing companies operating in the country. The variations were causing confusion in definitions and difficulties in aggregating total reserves. In September 1990, the then Director of Petroleum resources held a meeting with oil producing companies operating in Nigeria to discuss reserves, definitions, and reporting formatsâ€.
His presentation dealt with aligning NNS with Global standards.
